Submission of inquiries

In order to submit an inquiry to the Estonian Tax and Customs Board, it is possible to submit a request for information, a request for explanation or a memorandum. The deadline for responding to an inquiry depends on the requested information.

Types of inquiries

  • Request for information

A request for information is considered to be a request for a specific document or documents.

As a rule, we will respond to your request for information within five working days; however, depending on the volume of information requested, it may take up to 15 working days to respond. We will notify you of the extension of the term for responding and the reason behind that decision. However, our answer must be based on whether or not there have been legal restrictions established on the information requested.

  • Request for explanation and memorandum

If you want explanations or opinions from the Estonian Tax and Customs Board, for which it is necessary to analyse existing information or collect additional information, this is a request for explanation.

With a memorandum, you can draw the attention of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board to problems, convey information and make suggestions.

We will respond to a memorandum or request for explanation without undue delay but no later than within 30 calendar days of its registration. Under special circumstances, the term may be extended to up to two months depending on the complexity of the response. We will inform you of extension of the term for response, and of the reasons for extension.

  • Inquiry about the processing of your own data

If you ask for your own personal data, it is not a request for information or a request for explanation, but rather an appeal or a request to obtain your own data.

We will respond as soon as possible, but no later than within 1 month. This period may be extended by two months if necessary, considering the complexity and scope of the request. We inform you about the extension of the term.
